Talks on Syria opens in Swiss city

Tehran, Jan 22, IRNA – International talks on Syria kicked off Wednesday in Montreux, near Geneva, with the speech of the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon.

According to news sources, the UN chief, in his speech, announced that representatives of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and the opposition groups are to hold bilateral talks under the supervision of the UN special envoy for Syria Lakhdar Brahimi on January 24.

The Geneva II Conference on Syria is attended by Syrian opposition groups, pro-government representatives and some Arab and western countries.
