Withdrawal of Iran invitation shows UN is influenced by big powers, MP

Tehran, Jan 21, IRNA – A senior lawmaker said Tuesday the United Nations move to withdraw its invitation to Iran to attend the Geneva talks on Syria proves that the international body is influenced by bullying powers.

Hossein Naqavi Hosseini, Rapporteur of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission, made the remarks at the open session of Majlis (Parliament) this morning.

Condemning the UN chief's shameful act, he said Iran has never applied for the Geneva conference on Syria. They invited Tehran to participate in the event because they well knew that the Syrian crisis would not be settled without Iran's presence.

Different Salafid, Takfiri and terrorist groups exert pressures on the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to withdraw his invitation to Iran, he said, stressing they set a 6-hour deadline for him to do so.

The UN chief, who was unable to resist, finally cancelled the invitation, said the parliamentarian.
