Dozens killed as Pakistan military shell suspected hideouts

Islamabad, Jan 21, IRNA – Dozens of people have been killed in Pakistan’s North Waziristan tribal region over the past two days after recent wave of Taliban deadly attacks, residents said Tuesday.

The military forces, backed by gunships, hit some locations in Mir Ali area of the North Waziristan tribal region, killing over 20 people and injuring several others, military sources said.

The air strikes took place as domestic pressure grew on Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to take tougher action against Taliban militants following a string of attacks across the country in the past week.

Taliban also confirmed the strikes but claimed that some civilians were killed. The military denied the claim.

Sources said those wounded in the attacks could not be shifted to hospitals for treatment due to a curfew imposed on the area.
