Presence of Iran in Geneva II confab vital in settling Syria crisis: MP

Tehran, Jan 20, IRNA - Head of Majlis National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Alaeddin Boroujerdi said here on Monday that the presence of Iran in the Geneva II conference on Syria would play a pivotal role in settling political tensions in that Arab country.

Pointing to the invitation of Iran by the United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon to attend the Geneva II conference on the Syrian crisis, he said Iran would participate in the conference without accepting the Geneva I statement.

Inviting Iran to participate in the Geneva II conference means that the meeting would not succeed without Iran's presence, the MP reiterated.

On Sunday (Jan 19), the UN chief announced at the UN headquarters in New York that Iran has been invited to the Geneva II conference.
