Dy FM urges realistic look to Syria

Tehran, Jan 18, IRNA – Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab-African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said on Saturday that the western governments must adopt realistic approach to the humanitarian crisis in Syria.

Amir-Abdollahian said that participants of international conference on Syria should know that their decisions should not lead to promotion of extremist movements in Syria.

Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks In a meeting with French Foreign Ministry Director-General for North Africa and Middle-East Affairs Jean Francois Giroux in Tehran.

Amir-Abdollahian said the upcoming conference on Syria can deliver a political solution on condition that the current situation in Syria are looked in a realistic point of view.

He said that the international conference must prepare the ground for the Syrian people to decide their own fate by going to polls.

He said that the Islamic Republic of Iran believes that the criteria for the democratic mechanism is the vote of the Syrian people.

He hoped that the mistakes made by certain foreign countries in Syria would not be repeated in the political scene and in the Geneva 2 confab.

He pointed to growth of terrorist trends in Syria and presence of the Takfiri forces in the country, saying that good progress is observed in the field by the popular forces and the Syrian army in campaign against terrorists.

Amir-Abdollahian deplored the humanitarian crisis in Syria and said that essential needs of the Syrian people must be provided.

Iran will continue with efforts to encourage certain countries and humanitarian institutions to ship aid to the country.

Giroux in turn emphasized that Syria crisis has no military solution, hoping that the world community would be able to lead the Geneva 2 conference to ending the dilemma.

He called for consultations with Iran, and said that all countries that have positive attitude toward cessation of violence in Syria would better take part in the Geneva 2 conference and France has already announced that it has no problem with presence of important countries.

He called for efforts to be made to bring about unity among the dissident groups to encourage them to take part in the conference.
