UK condemns terrorist attacks in Iraq

London, Jan. 16, IRNA - British Foreign Office condemned recent terrorist attacks in Iraq which have left more than 70 people dead in central Iraq.

Commenting on yesterday’s bomb attacks in Iraq, Foreign Office Minister Hugh Robertson, said: "I utterly condemn the bombings that took place in Iraq yesterday, including a particularly appalling attack against mourners at a funeral in Diyala province."

“My condolences go to the families of the victims and to those who have been injured,” he said in a statement.

The Minister stressed: Terrorism and extremism have no place in Iraq. The United Kingdom supports the Iraqi Government and the Iraqi people in their efforts to combat terrorism, and bring the perpetrators to justice.

“I continue to call on all political, religious and community leaders in Iraq to work together to combat the threat from terrorism through an inclusive political process in order to build a more stable and prosperous Iraq.”

According to the Iraqi police and medical officials, at least 73 people were killed in a series of bombings in central Iraq on Wednesday.

The United Nations says 7,818 civilians and 1,050 members of the security forces died in 2013.
