    International Physics Olympiad 2024

    The theoretical exam of the International Physics Olympiad (IPhO) 2024 was held at Isfahan University of Technology on Thursday (July 25). The competition, which is the 54th edition of the IPhO, has two parts -- theoretical and practical exams. 198 elite students from 46 countries are taking part in the international competition underway in Iran’s historical city of Isfahan.

    The maximum temperature of Ahvaz city in southern Khuzestan province of Iran has reached 48 degrees Celsius and the minimum temperature has reached 30.2 degrees Celsius. The heat has reached such an extent that all branches of state banks in the province were closed on Thursday (July 25, 2024). The Khuzestan Meteorological Department has issued an orange level warning regarding the occurrence of temperatures of 48 and 49 degrees and above from Wednesday of this week to Sunday of next week.

    Kashan is a historical city more than seven thousand years old, located in the central desert of Iran. This city has many historical houses from the Qajar and Zandiye periods. By visiting these houses, tourists travel to history and learn about the lives of the people of that time.Each part of the historical houses of Kashan has a separate purpose and use and has its own decorations. The exterior of the house was for public work and daily commuting, the interior was for the daily life of family members and there were special rooms for guests.

    Iran’s volleyball players, who have traveled to Surabaya, Indonesia, to participate in the Asian Men’s U20 Volleyball Championship, continued their training under the supervision of the team’s head coach, Gholamreza Momeni-Moghadam. They played three matches against the national teams of Indonesia and Australia, and Samator’s juniors. The 22nd Asian Men's U20 Volleyball Championship will be held from July 23-30 with the participation of 16 teams.

    The mourning ritual in the desert is considered one of the special ceremonies of the month of Muharram in Semnan, which has particularly gained a lot of attention in recent years. In this ceremony, a group of people go to a desert near Semnan and mourn the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) in the Battle of Karbala (680 AD).

    The Shakhsi-Goyan is a traditional mourning ritual of Muharram and part of the Azeri culture of Tabriz. All neighborhoods in the northwestern city have Shakhsi-Goyan processions, where mourners hold long, cylindrical wooden staffs in their hands and they chant Shakhsi (Shah Hossein) and Vakhsi (Oh Hossein) as they process along mourning routes. The processions move in rhythm with drums, with mourners placing their hands on the shoulders of the person next to them.

    The torch-carrying ceremony, held by the people from Iraq's Najaf residing in Qom, central Iran, serves as a reminder and commemoration of the historical event when the tents of Imam Hussein (AS) were set on fire after he and his 72 companions were martyred on Ashura. Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam and a grandson of Islam's Prophet Mohammad (PBUH), and his companions, were martyred in the Battle of Karbala, in southern Iraq, in 680 AD after fighting courageously for justice against the much larger army of the Umayyad caliph, Yazid I. The tenth day of the Arabic month Muharram is known as Ashura.

    A special ceremony named “Ya Abbas, Ya Abbas” was held, in the historical bazaar of Shahrud, Semnan province, east of Tehran, on July 11, 2024. This ritual is about 200 to 300 years old and has been passed down from generation to generation. The ceremony commemorates the martyrdom of Imam Hussein (AS) – the third Shia Imam – and his 72 companions, including his brother Abbas (AS).

    Iranian and Iraqi Interior Ministers, Ahmad Vahidi and Abdul Amir al-Shammari, visited the Khosravi border crossing in western Iran and the Manzarieh border crossing in eastern Iraq on July 11, 2024, to assess the level of preparation and infrastructure for providing services to Arbaeen pilgrims. Arbaeen rally, which commemorate the 40th day after the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Hussein (AS), the third Shia Imam, is one of the largest religious gatherings in the world. Pilgrims from around the globe, mainly from Iraq and Iran, travel long routes on foot to Karbala, where the holy shrine of Imam Hussein (AS) is located.

    Terraced cultivation of rice covers more than 65,000 hectares of Golestan province’s agricultural lands, northern Iran. About 2% of these rice fields are located along the Khormarud River. Due to the use of river water, springs, and the warmth during the day and the cool at nights, the rice produced in this village is one a kind in Golestan province. It is very fragrant and of high quality.

    Masoud Pezeshkian, the 9th president of the Islamic Republic of Iran, was born on September 29, 1954, in Mahabad city of West Azarbaijan province. Pezeshkian was the minister of health in the second government of Seyed Mohammad Khatami and in the eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh and twelfth terms he continuously served as a representative Tabriz in the Iranian parliament. He was also the first vice-speaker of the Iranian parliament in the 10th parliament. Masoud Pezeshkian became the elected president of the people with 16,384,403 votes in the second round of the 14th presidential election.     Iranian wounded veterans mark Flight 655 shot down by US

    A group of wounded-in-action soldiers swam in the Persian Gulf on July 2, 2024, to commemorate the martyrdom of 290 passengers of Flight 655 shot down by the US Navy in 1988. The Airbus A300 passenger airliner, carrying 290 people, fell victim to two surface-to-air missiles fired from the USS Vincennes. Among the victims were 66 children, 53 women, and 16 crew members. Additionally, 36 foreign nationals from six countries were also on board. The aircraft’s black box was never recovered. Iran Air Flight 655, a regular route to Dubai, met its tragic end shortly after departing from Bandar Abbas. After the tragic incident, Will Rogers III, the captain of the US Vincennes, was eulogized and awarded, which proved that the US Navy’s attack on an Iranian passenger plane had been a premeditated crime.
