Tehran, IRNA - Iran's ambassador to Lebanon says Israel would commit its "biggest mistake" yet if it tried to respond to Iran's retaliatory operation against the regime.

"The biggest mistake this criminal (regime) and its allies will make is to try to respond to today's operation, in which case Iran's punitive policy will change," Mojtaba Amani said in a social media post.

In the early hours of Sunday, the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) launched a volley of missiles and drones towards the Israeli occupied territories in response to a  deadly attack on the Iranian diplomatic premises in Syria early this month.

Amani said the military operation against the Israeli regime was remarkable in multiple ways.

Firstly, it proved that Iran is determined to defend itself, the ambassador said.

"Secondly, Iranian missiles, despite all the help and support from the United States etc. hit their main target from a distance of 1100 kilometers, and thirdly, it was clear that Iran did not intend a comprehensive attack and only settled for punishment and succeeded in that," he added.

Lastly, the ambassador noted that the resistance front was simply an "observer" in Iran's retaliation against the Israeli regime.
