Amer, from the occupied West Bank city of Qalqilya, died in Hadarim prison on Sunday evening, according to Palestine’s WAFA news agency citing the Prisoners’ Affairs Commission (PAC) and the Palestine Prisoner’s Society (PPS).
PAC and PPS said in a joint press release that Amer died due to “Israeli repression, torture and detention.”
The 59-year-old man and his son were detained by Israeli regime forces in Tira city nearly a month ago as they were looking for employment opportunities, said the press release, adding that they were sentenced to a month in jail under the pretext of entering Israel without obtaining permits.
According to the PAC and PPS, Amer’s death brings to 16 the number of Palestinian detainees who have died “as a result of torture” in Israeli custody since October 7 when the regime unleased its war on Gaza.
Since then, the regime has arrested thousands of Palestinian workers from Gaza and the occupied West Bank, the groups said.
