Tehran, IRNA - Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez says Israel's "disproportionate" war in the Gaza Strip threatens the stability of the West Asia region and the whole world.

According to AFP, Spain’s premier also stressed the importance of acknowledging the existence of the Palestinian state, noting that it is a just move and aligns with Europe's geopolitical interests.

Sanchez has been actively urging the European Union to recognize Palestine, despite opposition from the Israeli regime and its allies.

Along with leaders from Ireland, Malta, and Slovenia, he has expressed readiness to recognize Palestine in the hopes of contributing to a resolution to the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip.

Sanchez is scheduled to meet with leaders from Norway and Portugal to discuss the matter.

During a recent visit to Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and Qatar, the prime minister hinted at Spain's potential recognition of Palestine as a state by the end of June.

He also emphasized the need for the international community to fully recognize Palestine within the UN system and expressed Spain's readiness to support and recognize the State of Palestine.
