On the occasion of Iranian New Year and Eid al-Fitr, Ayatollah Khamenei has agreed to pardon or commute the sentences of 2,127 convicts upon a proposal by Iranian Judiciary Chief Gholmhossein Mohseni-Ejei, deputy head of the Judiciary Sadeq Rahimi said on Saturday.
Rahimi added that 858 convicts received an amnesty decree, while 1,269 others were subjected to the commutation of the sentence.
Among the pardoned convicts, 156 were women, 5 were foreign nationals, 11 were security convicts, and 5 were under the age of 18, he further noted.
The prisoners had been sentenced in public and revolutionary courts, the Discretionary Punishments Organization of Iran, and the Judicial Organization of the Armed Forces.
