Islamabad, IRNA – Head of the political bureau of the Palestinian Hamas resistance group Ismail Haniyeh has called on the new Pakistani government to play an active role in pressuring the Israeli regime and its allies to accept an immediate ceasefire in Gaza.

In a letter to Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, Haniyeh offered his congratulations on his election and discussed the latest developments regarding the Israeli onslaught in Gaza, according to Pakistani media.

The Palestinian official appreciated efforts made by other countries and organizations to support Palestine, saying the Pakistani premier should also put pressure on the supporters of the Israeli regime to halt the bloody aggression.

Haniyeh pointed out that the Israeli occupying regime intentionally targets innocent civilians, including children, women, and the elderly, adding that Israeli forces also destroy mosques, schools, hospitals, residential buildings, roads, and other infrastructures to remove all signs of life in the besieged area.

The Israeli officials resort to famine and hunger as a weapon of war against Gaza residents in order to pursue their heinous objectives, he argued, adding that the enemy also blocked the delivery of international aid, and they even kill Palestinians who line up to receive aid packages.

More than 31,000 Palestinians have been killed since October 7, when the Zionist regime launched a genocidal war on Gaza after a surprise operation by the Palestinian resistance groups against the occupying entity.
