Ahvaz, IRNA -- Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi inaugurated the Atiye Middle East Steel Plant via video conferencing during his visit to Khuzestan province, southwestern Iran.

The Atiye Middle East steel plant, located in Ahvaz, has a production capacity of 600,000 tons and was established with an investment of 50,000 billion rials (approximately $83 million) from the private sector. The project received cooperation and participation from the provincial department of industry, mining, and trade of Khuzestan. The factory will specialize in producing hot-rolled steel sheets.

The inauguration of the Atieh Middle East Steel Group has led to the employment of approximately one thousand people in Khuzestan province.

The first phase of the Atiye Middle East Steel Plant commenced in 2020.

Additionally, President Raisi also inaugurated the Zamzam 3 steel factory, which is the largest producer of sponge iron in the country and one of the largest steel production units in West Asia. During his visit, he explored various parts of this steel production facility.
