Tehran, IRNA - Iran’s Deputy President for Women and Family Affairs Ensieh Khaz’ali says the country has started to offer free insurance to breastfeeding women and children under five years of age.

Khaz’ali made the announcement on Tuesday while addressing the 28th G5 Technical Meeting on Women and Family.

She said that some 99 free services, including consultations and screenings, are currently on offer to children, infants and pregnant mothers. 

The official said that pregnant women and malnourished children also receive food assistance. 

Khaz’ali also said the mortality rate for mothers in Iran has decreased to 23 per 100,000, infants to 8 per 100,000, and children under 15 years of age to 14 per 100,000.
