The top Iranian diplomat made the comment on Saturday afternoon at a joint press briefing with his Lebanese counterpart Abdallah Bou Habib in Beirut where the two held talks on issues of mutual interest.
Amirabdollahian described the talks as good, saying that Tehran and Beirut emphasize that war is not a solution, and that they do not welcome the expansion of the conflict in the region.
“We believe that the Palestinian resistance movement, Hamas, has acted accurately and wisely in terms of both politics and standing up against the Israeli regime’s crimes,” the top Iranian diplomat said.
Of course, it is clear to people across the world that more than four months of war in Gaza and the West bank has brought no tangible results for Israel and its backers, he added.
Amirabdollahian referred to the US role in the Gaza war and broader conflict in West Asia as well.
“The US is taking two paths simultaneously. On the first path, it continues to send weapons [to the Israeli regime] and be complicit in the genocide in Gaza. On the second path, the US speaks of a political solution. We clearly say that if the US wants peace [to be restored] in the region, the solution is to stop the war in Gaza.”
Elsewhere in his remarks at the presser, the Iranian foreign minister said that he received promising reports from his Lebanese counterpart and other senior officials about internal developments in the Arab country, adding that Iran wants nothing but good for Lebanon.
The Lebanese foreign minister also said at the press briefing that his talks with Amirabdollahian focused on stability in Lebanon, the necessity of a stop to the war in Gaza as well as empowering the Lebanese armed forces, among other issues.
Amirabdollahian and Bou Habib met on Saturday afternoon on the second day of the top Iranian diplomat’s visit to Lebanon.
Amirabdollahian also met other senior Lebanese officials including the prime minister and the parliament speaker.
