Tehran, IRNA – Resistance groups in the region have condemned a deadly US drone strike on the Iraqi capital Baghdad and extended their condolences to the families of the victims in the Arab country.

In a statement, the Secretary General of Iraq-based Kata’ib Hezbollah expressed his condolences on the martyrdom of one of the commanders of the Islamic Resistance group on Thursday morning.

According to Al-Mayadeen, Abu Hossein Al-Hamidawi, condoled the martyrdom of Abu Baqer Al-Saadi in “the American terrorist attack” on the Islamic nation and the people of Iraq.

Another Iraqi resistance group, al-Nujaba, denounced the US attack, warning that the crime will not go unanswered.

It said that it will respond to the attack in a time and place of its choosing, and urged the government in Baghdad to defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Iraq in the face of the American occupiers.

The Coordination Framework, an umbrella bloc of Iraqi Shia parties, strongly condemned the US for crossing the red lines by targeting Iraqi armed forces who played a role in defeating the Daesh terrorist group, according to Baghdad Today news agency.

The Coordination Framework said that it considers the US drone strike as a retaliation against the commanders who stood up firmly against terrorism.

Iraq’s Islamic Dawa Party also denounced the US attack, saying that remaining silent on the crime and the lack of a firm national and political stance over it will cause such crimes to happen.

Yemen's Ansarullah Movement also condemned the US drone attack on eastern Baghdad and the martyrdom of one of the Iraqi resistance commanders.

Ansarullah's statement said that the American aggression shows the impact of the operations of the Iraqi resistance groups and their declared support for the Palestinians in Gaza.

“US attacks on the Iraqi people will not affect their stance toward Americans and the Israeli regime”, it said, adding that the presence of America in Iraq and the region is a real threat to peace and stability of West Asia.

In separate statements, Palestinian resistance movements, Hamas and Islamic Jihad, also condemned the US drone attack on Baghdad.

“We strongly condemn the brutal attack that led to the martyrdom of Iraqi resistance leaders, and we consider it a violation of Iraq's sovereignty and security. It was done in the service to the Zionist occupation regime”, Palestine's Sama news agency quoted a Hamas statement.

The Hamas statement also blamed US President Joe Biden's administration for the escalation of tension in the region by supporting the Israeli genocidal war on the Gaza Strip.

On the other hand, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad movement, while condemning the drone strike in Baghdad, emphasized that the US government's aggressive approach aims to ignite conflict in the region and support the Zionist regime’s bloody war against the Palestinian people.

Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement issued a statement as well. It strongly condemned the assassination of Abu Baqer Al-Saadi, calling it a clear violation of sovereignty and security of Iraq.

Hezbollah also said that the assassination is the continuation of crimes and acts of aggression by the American occupation forces against people in Iraq, Syria and Yemen.
