Moscow, IRNA - A16th edition of the competition on Persian Language and Literature has been held at the Moscow State University with the participation of students from 11 Russian universities.

The closing ceremony of the event was held on Monday with the presence of Iran's Ambassador to Russia and Director of the Institute of the Asian and African Studies of Moscow State University.

Addressing the event, Jalali congratulated the anniversary of the victory of Iran's Islamic Revolution of 1979. 

He described language as the basis of knowledge, saying that the promotion of the Persian language in Russia is an important factor in efforts to help Russian people know the realities of Iran and the achievements of the Islamic Revolution.

He said the Persian language and literature students play an important role in relations between Iran and Russia.

Russian Iranologist and distinguished professor of Persian literature Grant Voskanyan who passed away at the age of 99 was also commemorated on the sidelines of the event.

Some 31 top students from Moscow State University, Russian State University for the Humanities, Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (PFUR), Astrakhan University, University of North Ossetia, HSE University, Saint Petersburg State University, Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Russian Federation, Dagestan State University and the Moscow State Linguistic University participated in the competition.
