The senior official, who is also close to the Democratic party, made the remark in an interview with CNN on Friday afternoon local time emphasizing that the airstrikes are “only focusing on targets outside of the country.”
The official also noted Friday night that “US officials have known for a few days now that the first strikes would happen tonight.”
The United States Central Command (CENTCOM) also declared that “US military forces struck more than 85 targets, with numerous aircraft to include long-range bombers flown from the United States.”
Earlier, American media outlets such as Fox News, ABC News, and CNN reported the initiation of the US Army’s attacks on positions of several resistance groups in eastern Syria in retaliation for their deadly strike last month on American forces in Jordan which left three US soldiers killed and 34 others injured.
The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an umbrella group of several anti-occupation factions, has carried out numerous drone, rocket, and missile attacks on US military positions in Iraq and Syria since October in a bid to push the Western country to stop supporting the Israeli regime’s genocidal war against Palestinians in the Gaza.
