Tehran, IRNA- The 42nd edition of the Fajr International Film Festival has kicked off in Tehran.

The opening ceremony was held at the Vahdat Hall of the Iranian capital on Wednesday for the first time in four years.

In this year's festival, 33 films have been selected for screening in major theater halls for ten days starting from Friday.

Mojtaba Amini, the secretary of the festival, said, “The pretext for this gathering is our dear and noble cinema, which we witness its brilliance today. It is a cinema that is questioning, demanding, and seeking, yet not hopeless or bleak.”

“In the next ten days, a lively feast awaits the professional audience of our cinema,” he added.

Amini promised a captivating diversity in this year’s films, with genres ranging from drama to comedy to the Holy Defense.
