Tehran, IRNA - Iran's Deputy Interior Minister for Security and Police Affairs Majid Mirahmadi and Speaker of the People's Assembly of Syria Hammouda Sabbagh have held talks in the Syrian capital Damascus to discuss bilateral and regional developments.

During the meeting held on Monday, Mirahmadi referred to security agreements signed between Iran and Syria and said that the two countries have significant geopolitical positions both in the region and in the Islamic world.

According to the Iranian official, occupiers must leave the Syrian territory and the brave army of the Arab country should achieve deterrence against Israeli threats.

The two states are united in fighting the terrorist Israeli regime, he said, adding said that Iran and Syria have common objectives, interests, and foes. 

The Israeli regime carries out attacks on resistance fighters in a bid to turn Syria into an unprotected country in the face of attacks by the aggressive regime, said the Iranian official, adding that the regional resistance will stand with Syria in dealing with enemies’ threats.

During his stay in Syria, Mirahmadi also met and held talks with senior security officials in the  Arab country.
