The statement issued late on Friday said that on the evening of January 11, two U.S. Navy Sailors were reported missing at sea while conducting operations off the coast of Somalia, adding that search and rescue operations are currently ongoing to locate the two sailors.
It said that for operational security purposes, CENTCOM will not release additional information until the personnel recovery operation is complete.
The statement came hours after the US and Britain launched airstrikes against Yemen to allegedly compensate losses suffered because of Yemeni attacks on Israeli-linked ships sailing in the Red Sea.
The strikes came a day after the United Nations Security Council adopted a resolution against Yemen’s ruling Ansarullah movement. The Yemeni group has been attacking ships linked to Israel to force the regime to end its brutal aggression on Gaza.
