Tehran, IRNA – The fifth extraordinary meeting of the Standing Committee on Palestine of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC member states (PUIC) has started in Tehran concurrent with the first meeting of Committee of Palestine of Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA).

The meetings began on Wednesday with the aim of boosting cooperation between parliaments on the issue of Palestine and amid an ongoing conflict in Gaza.

Addressing the PUIC meeting, Iran’s Parliament Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf defended the rights of the Palestinians to resist against occupation and aggression.

“This is an absolute right that the Palestinian nation should decide about it,” Qalibaf said in his address to the meeting.

He also stressed the need to continue efforts against inhumane and harsh policies of the fake Zionist regime of Israel.

The speaker went on to stress that no one should ignore the reality of the Al Aqsa Storm operation as an spontaneous move by the Palestinian people in early October to defend their rights to fight against occupation and aggression.

What is happening in Palestine these days is a clear example of the hypocritical policy of the US and like-minded states in the West to support aggression and bloodshed, said Qalibaf.

Representatives from 26 Islamic and Asian countries, including from Bahrain, Turkiye, Algeria, Oman and China, have attended the Tehran's PUIC meeting which is being hosted by Iran’s Consultative Assembly (Majlis).
