Tehran, IRNA – The Palestinian Health Ministry in Gaza has said that the total death toll from Israel’s attacks on the besieged territory since October 7 has reached 22,313.

The Israeli military killed 128 Palestinians and wounded 261 others in the Gaza Strip during the past 24 hours, IRNA reported citing Palestinian media on Wednesday.

At the same time, Director-General of the World Health Organization Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus has announced that Gazans are facing a "dire humanitarian catastrophe" in the region.

He underlined that health must never be a target during conflicts, adding that hospitals, ambulances, health workers, and people seeking care must be protected, at all times, under international humanitarian law.

Gaza’s health system is already on its knees, with health and aid workers continuously stymied in their efforts to save lives due to the hostilities, he further noted.

He reiterated his call for an immediate ceasefire, alongside urgent action to get food, medical supplies, and water to Gazan civilians “forced to live in unspeakable conditions of hunger, disease spread, and lack of hygiene and sanitation".

The Israeli regime waged a bloody war against the Gaza Strip on October 7 after the Palestinian Resistance movement Hamas carried out a retaliatory attack, dubbed Operation Al-Aqsa Storm, against the occupying entity for its atrocities against Palestinians.
