Tehran, IRNA – The head of the Cancer Research Center of Shahid Beheshti University of Medical Sciences has highlighted the need to develop nuclear technology to diagnose and treat cancer.

The nuclear technology “should come to the aid of cancer diagnosis and treatment,” Professor Mohammad-Esmaeil Akbari said on the sidelines of the first medical plasma symposium of Iran.

“The growth rate of cancer in our country is relatively high compared to other countries in the world, so it is necessary to think about this problem and make detailed plans,” he said.

Akbari further explained that major projects for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer have been launched in the last two years in cooperation with the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran, including in the field of plasma.

“Given the characteristics of plasma, it can be said that this substance is very effective for the diagnosis and treatment of cancer,” he added.
