According to Israeli media reports citing official figures, nearly two million citizens are living in poverty, from whom 870,000 are children — a rate considered the highest compared with developed countries.
Based on figures provided by the Zionist regime's Insurance Institute, 949,000 of those living in poverty are employed while around 150,000 others are Individuals who are elderly or retired.
According to the institute, poverty line per person was at $775 in 2022, which was up by $50 compared to a year earlier.
That comes as poverty has grown among workers’ families who make up half of the poor in Israel.
Israeli media reports have raised concern over the figures, with Yedioth Ahronoth Newspaper expecting the number of the poor to rise further next year as military reservists would also fall under the poverty level due to the Gaza war.
Last week, Head of the Knesset State Control Committee Mickey Levy said that the Zionist regime is facing an economic catastrophe and what he described as “insurmountable debt” for the years generations to come, calling on prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu to resign immediately.
