Tehran, IRNA – Iran’s Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian has said that peace and stability as well as development in the Caucasus region can be achieved through collaboration between regional countries and neighbors of that region.

The top Iranian diplomat made the comment on Wednesday night in a post he shared on X, formerly Twitter, following his meetings with top Armenian officials in Yerevan.

“During the trip to Armenia, I met with Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and Secretary of the Security Council Armen Grigoryan for talks on the latest developments in South Caucasus, ways to achieve durable peace in the region as well as bilateral relations,” Amirabdollahian said in his post.

Also, during separate phone talks with the Russian and Azerbaijani foreign ministers on Tuesday, the latest status of resolving Caucasus issues within the 3+3 framework was reviewed, the Iranian diplomat further said.

“We believe that peace, stability, tranquility and development in Caucasus can be achieved through collaboration between regional countries and neighbors of that region,” Amirabdollahian said.

He added that the expansion of cooperation between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Forum will create new horizons for trade ties between Tehran and Yerevan.

Meanwhile, Amirabdollahian met a group of Iranians in Yerevan where he arrived earlier on Wednesday amid regional efforts to resolve a territorial dispute between Armenia and the Azerbaijan Republic.

His trip took place two days after Iran signed a free trade agreement with the Eurasian Economic Union, under which the Islamic Republic and the bloc -- made up of five ex-Soviet states of Russia, Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, and Kyrgyzstan -- will lift tariffs on 87% of the items being exchanged between them.
