Russia’s Sputnik News, citing a Yemeni diplomatic source, reported that the signing of the Yemeni peace roadmap will take place in Mecca at the beginning of January.
The United Nations, Saudi Arabia and Oman are making extensive preparations to sign this agreement in Mecca on the set date, which is early next January, the source said.
The source also said that Saudi Arabia has agreed to pay one year’s salary for all Yemeni government employees, and Yemeni oil and gas exports will be resumed in order to improve the country’s economic situation.
The UN special envoy for Yemen said on Saturday that the warring sides in Yemen have both committed to steps towards a ceasefire.
Hans Grundberg, in a statement issued by his office, said he “welcomes the parties’ commitment to a set of measures to implement a nationwide ceasefire, improve living conditions in Yemen, and engage in preparations for the resumption of an inclusive political process under UN auspices.”
