Moscow, IRNA – Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Bogdanov has highlighted that respect for Iran’s territorial integrity is among Moscow’s fundamental principles.

Bogdanov made the remarks in a meeting in Moscow with Iran’s Ambassador to Russia Kazam Jalali where he briefed the Iranian ambassador on the events which took place during a recent Arab-Russian cooperation meeting in Morocco.

The Iranian ambassador, for his part, reiterated Iran’s historical sovereignty over three Iranian islands of Bumusa, the Greater Tunb and the Lesser Tunb.

Regarding the growing relations between the two countries, Iran expects Russia not to let the enemies take advantage of such stances, Jalali said.

Also in a phone conversation, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov had ensured his Iranian counterpart Hossein Amirabdollahian that Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity has always been respected by Russia, stressing that this is a policy that should not be doubted.

The Iranian foreign minister also reacted to the final statement of the Morocco Meeting and said that the three Iranian islands are inseparable parts of the Iranian soil.

He stressed that any claim by any side regarding these islands is categorically rejected.
