Tehran, IRNA – Members of a special presidential committee have visited Tehran’s Evin Prison to meet with a number of female prisoners of Iran’s 2022 protests.

The committee members listened to the comments made by the prisoners and provided some responses.

The committee is tasked with probing into widespread protests across Iran which followed the death of a young woman in police custody in the Iranian capital in September 2022.  

Thousands of the prisoners have been released due to an amnesty order by Supreme Leader Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei.

Zohreh Elahian, the chairperson of the human rights committee of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) National security and Foreign Policy Commission, Sakineh Sadat Pad, a special aide to President Raisi, and Kazem Gharibabadi, the secretary of Iran’s High Council for Human Rights were among the members of the presidential committee dispatched to Evin Prison.
