Tehran, IRNA – Akbar Golpayegani, popularly known as Golpa, a prominent figure in traditional Iranian music, has died at the age of 90 following a long illness.

Born on January 30, 1934, in Tehran, Golpa breathed his last on the evening of November 4, 2023, in the same city.

Golpa’s musical journey began in 1941 when he started learning music and musical instruments under the guidance of his father. His first experience with a choir orchestra came in 1947, and a year later, he joined the Nezam School Music Association. He continued his musical education under the tutelage of the school’s teachers and masters.
