Tehran, IRNA – Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi has called for a thorough investigation into the mysterious murder of acclaimed Iranian filmmaker and screenwriter, Dariush Mehrjui, and his wife.

The announcement was made by Government Spokesman Ali Bahadori Jahromi on Monday.

In a cabinet meeting on Sunday, the Minister of Interior of the Islamic Republic of Iran, Ahman Vahidi, and Iran’s Minister of Culture and Islamic Guidance, Mohammad Mehdi Esmaili, presented a report on the tragic incident.

President Raisi expressed his condolences over the loss of the prominent filmmaker and demanded a detailed investigation into the circumstances surrounding the murders.

Vahidi condemned any actions that cause insecurity in society and assured that Iranian police are making every effort to apprehend those responsible for the crime.

Mehrjui and his wife were found dead in their home in Alborz province, northern Iran, on Saturday.
