During a visit to the provincial capital of Shiraz on Friday, Owji said that the dry gas field discovered in Lamerd, south of Fars, contains an estimated 22 trillion cubic feet (623 billion cubic meters) of natural gas.
The minister said the field is the largest dry gas field ever discovered in Iran.
He said the development of the field would create a massive economic change in Fars, a key province that is home to more than five million people.
