Tehran, IRNA - Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian and his Tanzanian counterpart Yusuf Makamba in a telephone conversation on Friday discussed bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest.

In the telephone conversation, the Iranian foreign minister congratulated the Tanzanian government and Muslim people on the birth anniversary of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (PBUH).

Further congratulating the appointment of the Foreign Minister of Tanzania to his post,  Amirabdollahian referred to the long-standing relations between the Islamic Republic of Iran and the Republic of Tanzania, as well as the existence of diverse potential in both countries and expressed Iran's readiness to strengthen bilateral relations, especially in the economic and science and technology fields.

Makamba, for his part, voiced gratitude to the Iranian Minister of Foreign Affairs for his congratulatory remarks and expressed his readiness to develop relations between the two countries.

The Tanzanian foreign minister emphasized the invitation of the President of his country to his Iranian counterpart President Ebrahim Raeisi to visit Dar es Salaam.

During the phone conversation after pointing to the recent meeting of the presidents of the two countries on the sidelines of the BRICS summit in South Africa, the two sides agreed to hold a joint commission between the two countries in the near future.
