Hangzhou, IRNA - The national Iranian saber fencing team has lost to China to finish in third place at the 19th Asian Games underway in China's Hangzhou.

The Iranian saber fencing team faced the Chinese team in the semi-final match at the Asian Games on Thursday and was defeated by the East Asian team 40 to 45 to stand in third place.

Iran’s saber fencing squad is comprised of Mohammad Rahbari, Ali Pakdaman, Farzad Baher, and Mohammad Fotouhi.

In the final, South Korea and China will compete to win the championships.

The 2022 Asian Games also known as Hangzhou 2022 is a continental multi-sport event currently being held from 23 September to 8 October 2023 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China.

The Games, delayed a year due to China's measures to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, will be the country's biggest sporting event in over a decade in several metrics, with around 12,000 athletes from 45 nations competing in 40 sports.

Iran has sent 289 male and female athletes to the Games in 34 sports events.
