Hangzhou, IRNA - Iranian men Wushu fighter Afshin Salimi has grabbed a gold medal at the 19th Asian Games underway in China's Hangzhou.

On the fifth day of the competition on Thursday, Afshin Salimi faced an opponent from Indonesia in the final match of the 65-kg of Sanda, during which he managed to eliminate his opponent and snatch the gold medal of the sporting event.

Also, another Iranian Wushu fighter Shoja Panahi was defeated by his Chinese rival in the men’s 60kg in the final and received the silver medal.

Previously, Zahra Kiani and Elahe Mansourian each won the silver medal, while Shahrbanoo Mansourian gained the bronze medal in the tournament.

The 2022 Asian Games also known as Hangzhou 2022 is a continental multi-sport event currently being held from 23 September to 8 October 2023 in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province, China.

The Games, delayed a year due to China's measures to combat the COVID-19 pandemic, will be the country's biggest sporting event in over a decade in several metrics, with around 12,000 athletes from 45 nations competing in 40 sports.

Iran has sent 289 male and female athletes to the Games in 34 sports events.
