Urmia, IRNA – Iranian security forces have arrested 15 terrorists plotting to conduct a terrorist attack in the capital Tehran, says the chief justice of West Azerbaijan, a province in northwest Iran that borders Iraq and Turkey.

Naser Atabati said late on Sunday that the terrorists were arrested in West Azerbaijan in close coordination between the provincial intelligence and judiciary headquarters, the IRNA reported on Monday.

“These elements were affiliated with Daesh, and some of them had a history of accompanying the Takfiris in Syria or being present in Afghanistan, Pakistan and the Kurdistan region of Iraq,” Atabati said.

He further said a significant number of weapons, explosive devices, explosive vests and remote controls were seized from this terrorist outfit.

Provincial intelligence forces are in full control of the security of the province and will not allow any criminal behavior, he added.

The remarks came hours after Iran’s Intelligence Ministry announced that it had thwarted a major plot to carry out 30 simultaneous bomb attacks at populous areas of Tehran.

The ministry said its forces conducted operations in the provinces of Tehran, Alborz and West Azerbaijan in several days and managed to arrest 28 operatives affiliated with the Daesh terrorist group.
