In the Friday meeting, held in New York in the United States on the sidelines of the annual United Nations General Assembly, Amirabdollahian emphasized the importance of leveraging the newly created atmosphere of cooperation to make up for the setbacks both countries experienced due to sanctions.
A few days ago, the Islamic Republic of Iran through a statement announced the September 18 release of its frozen funds in South Korea and the transfer of assets following a prisoner exchange between Tehran and Washington, facilitated by the Qatari government.
During the meeting, Amirabdollahian highlighted the significant potential for enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in culture, technology, and science.
In response, Park Jin expressed hope that the release of Iran’s blocked funds would strengthen bilateral ties and conveyed South Korea’s readiness to expand trade exchange with Iran.
The 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly is scheduled to take place from September 18 to 26.
