Tehran, IRNA - Former Iranian Ambassador to Italy Abolfazl Zohrevand has said that releasing Iran’s blocked funds depicts the US' need to keep ties with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

In an interview with IRNA on Monday, Zohrevand shed light on the coincidence of the US deal with Iran on releasing Iran’s frozen funds in South Korea and the prisoner swap between the two countries.

He underlined that the US needs a minimum level of communication with Iran, at the same time it continues its policy of sanctions against the country.

Referring to the realities of Iran and its position in the international arenas, he said that today, the Islamic Republic of Iran is not only a member of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization but also it is an official member of the BRICS group of emerging economies which brought a significant position for the country.

Given that the Biden administration in the US has not gained a significant achievement, that de-escalation with Iran is a winning card for the US incumbent government in their election campaigns, he said.
