Bandar Abbas, IRNA – During the first five months of the current Iranian calendar year (starting on March 21), Shahid Bahonar Port in southern Iran has seen a significant increase in docking activity.

A total of 132 vessels, each with a capacity of over 1,000 metric tons (mt), have docked at the port, said Hamidreza Mohammad Hosseini, who lead ports operations in east of the province of Hormozgan, on Monday.

This represents a 21% growth in the number of docking of vessels with a capacity of over 1,000 mt in March-August compared to the same period last year.

Hosseini attributed the growth to the special capacities in Shahid Bahonar Port which allow for the docking of high-tonnage vessels, as well as on an acceleration in the unloading and loading activities in the port.

He said Shahid Bahonar Port has become a hub for export and import of all kinds of goods in southern Iran because of its suitable logistics infrastructure.

The port is one of the most active ports in southern Iran. Its strategic position which is located near Persian Gulf littoral states and the Iranian islands of Qeshm and Kish has further enhanced its significance in the region.
