Tehran, IRNA – The Asian Football Confederation, AFC, has selected 74 match officials, including 4 Iranian referees, for its 2023 cup that will be held in Qatar in less than four months.

A total of 35 referees and 39 assistant referees have been selected based on their game management skills and competence, as well as technical knowledge and performances delivered at the highest levels of both continental and global football in recent years, said a press release on the AFC website on Thursday.

Mo’ud Bonyadifar, Saeed Qasemi, Alireza Ilderom, and Alireza Faghani are the four Iranian referees selected as match officials.

According to the Asia’s football governing body, women match officials will for the first time ever make their debut at the upcoming men’s national team competition.

Five female match officials have been selected, including Japan’s Yoshimi Yamashita. She was among six women officials who were historically selected for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.

The 2023 AFC Asian Cup will be held in Qatar from January 12 to February 10, 2024. It will be the 18th edition of the AFC Asian Cup and will involve two dozen national teams.
