Tehran, IRNA – As much as 11.5 million metric tons (mt) of temperate fruits and nuts are expected to be produced in Iran by the end of the current calendar year to March 2024, according to an official with the Ministry of Agriculture (MAJ).

Daryoush Salempour, the director of the MAJ department for temperate fruits and nuts, said that there are some 1.8 million hectares of temperate fruits and nuts orchards all across the country, the IRNA reported on Saturday.

He noted that the nuts orchards account for 31% of the country’s total orchards which shows the significance of producing fruits with high added value and resistance to climatic conditions.

The official added that based on the provisions of the country’s seventh development plan, some 70 to 80 thousand hectares of Iranian temperate fruits and nuts orchards are due to be revived each year.
