Tehran, IRNA – The trio islands are an integral and eternal part of the territory of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the foreign ministry spokesman has said undermining the recent statement released by the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council.

Kanaani emphasized on Friday that Iran has repeatedly asserted its territorial integrity and sovereignty over the Iranian islands based on accepted international law principles and rules.

Kanaani also commented on the exploitation of common resources in the Persian Gulf, stating that Iran has always emphasized friendly and constructive cooperation in the energy field, including in the Arash gas field, based on its bilateral negotiations with the Kuwaiti government and negotiation records.

He stated that paying attention to common interests can pave the way for regional cooperation and urged Persian Gulf countries to use resources based on goodwill and historical rights in line with the common interests of their nations.

Regarding claims about Iran’s peaceful nuclear program, Kanaani stated that Iran has continued to advance its peaceful nuclear program and cooperate with the International Atomic Energy Agency in a constructive manner, in accordance with its rights and obligations under the Non-Proliferation Treaty and the Comprehensive Safeguards Agreement. He added that Iran will not be influenced by political and media campaign interventions and pressures.

Kanaani also urged all parties to protect the new positive atmosphere in the region and stressed the need to strengthen regional synergy and convergence to secure the common interests of regional nations, adding that Iran expects its neighbors to refrain from making unrealistic claims and adopt a realistic approach to pave the way for improving regional relations.
