Under an initiative by the Chinese government and seeking the goal of expanding tourism cooperation, the alliance consists of 57 member cities from 26 countries in Europe, Africa, as well s America, and is open to receiving new members, the IRNA reported on Thursday.
And now, the admission of the Iranian city of Semnan as a founding member to the alliance is regarded as a key opportunity for economic change as well as strengthening trade exchanges at the world level to the benefit of the city.
This becomes more highlighted when considering the importance of the Silk Road. It was one of the most important roads used for international trade, and experts now believe that the Silk Road is regaining its importance and will play a key role in the world’s economy in the future.
Around 40 Iranian cities are located on the Silk Road. Among them, Semnan enjoys the longest part, almost 600 km, which is one of the reasons behind choosing this city as a founding member to the International Tourism Alliance of Silk Road Cities.
Moreover, the Iranian city is home to numerous historical and heritage sites, and possesses economic and other cultural capacities compatible with the rules of the alliance, with all of these putting Semnan on the path of turning into a key tourist hub on the Silk Road.
But achieving that goal requires relentless efforts at the provincial and even national level, as Semnan needs improvements when it comes to tourism, services, and welfare infrastructure, issues that certainly require the allocation of enough budget, among other things, to be resolved completely.
