Tehran, IRNA – Allameh Tabataba’i University in Tehran is planning to hold the first international conference on Parvin Etesami, a famous contemporary female poet.

The conference is scheduled for November 15, 2023, in Tehran and is being organized jointly by Allameh Tabatabei University and the Shahriar foundation.

The deadline for submitting papers has been extended to November 6 due to the enthusiastic response from authors and researchers.

Parvin Etesami was born in Tabriz, a northwestern Iranian city, in March 1907 and passed away in Qom, 140 km southwest of Tehran, in April 1941.

She is considered the most celebrated Iranian poet of the 20th century and her poetry follows classical Persian tradition in form and substance.

Her works are mostly didactic and philosophical in style, with major themes including fatalism or predestination, the introduction of liberal measures for enlightening the masses, poverty of the masses vis-à-vis the exploitative schemes of the upper class, and the plight of orphans, the aged, and the destitute.
