Iran’s Deputy Foreign Minister for Political Affairs Ali Bagheri Kani and Carlos Sérgio Sobral Duarte, the secretary for Africa and the Middle East at Brazil’s Foreign Ministry, discussed a range of issues including Tehran-Brasilia relations as well as international developments in the Brazilian capital on Thursday.
Bagheri rejected unilateralism, saying that seeking dominance and excessive demands are part of reasons contributing to the collapse of unilateralism in world affairs.
He also stressed the importance of the role each player plays in political, economic and international affairs, which he said helps promote a sustainable world order. He added that Iran and Brazil can play a key role in strengthening multilateralism and defending the interests of independent countries.
The Iranian and Brazilian officials meanwhile emphasized the importance of organizations like BRICS in creating a sustainable world order.
BRICS is a bloc of fast-growing economies made up of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa. Iran has in recent months stepped up efforts to join the bloc as well.
Iran’s Bagheri is on an official visit to Brazil where he has already met with a number of lawmakers and is scheduled to hold talks with other officials as well.
