The Qassam Brigades-linked battalion made the announcement on Thursday, saying that it had launched a Qassam-1 rocket from the city of Jenin in the northern occupied West Bank.
The projectile targeted the Zionist settlement of Ram-On, al-Ayyash said, stressing that the operation was in response to Israeli settlers’ attacks against Al-Aqsa Mosque which the group called “a red line.”
Al-Ayyash pledged to defend the holy place and prevent any acts of violation against it, warning the Zionist regime that future events would be more painful.
The group on July 10 also fired two rockets toward the occupied territories that landed in the Shaked settlement, in the northern West Bank.
Israeli settlers, backed by the regime forces, have in recent months visited Al-Aqsa Mosque almost on a daily basis in defiance of an existing status quo that forbids non-Muslims from praying there.
Al-Aqsa is located in occupied East Al-Quds and is regarded as one of the holiest sites in Islam.
Palestinians see the visits by the Zionist settlers and their extremist officials as provocative acts and violations against Al-Aqsa.
