An IRNA report on Monday said that the court in Tehran started proceedings in the case related to Mahan Air Flight 1152 which was harassed by US military jets on Syria's airspace aftyer departed from Iran’s Imam Khomeini International Airport for Beirut, Lebanon, on July 23, 2020.
It said on July 23, 2022, a lawsuit against the US government and 13 other defendants over the harassment of Mahan Air flight was filed in the Iranian court and defendants in the case were notified of the claims against them.
The claimants in the case, who were passengers Mahan Air Flight 1152, have asked for financial compensation as well as punitive and deterrent measures against the defendants.
Two F15 fighter jets belonging to the United States Central Command (CENTCOM) had approached the Mahan plane with the intention of destroying it and repeating a tragedy like that of Iran Air Flight 655 over the Persian Gulf on 3 July 1988, prosecutors in the case have said.
They said the attack failed because the pilot of the Mahan plan had succeeded in reducing the altitude of the aircraft, adding, however, that a passenger was martyred and 15 other passengers and crew members were severely injured as a consequence of the terrorist move by US fighter jets.
