Tehran, IRNA- A Russian guided-missile destroyer has docked at the port of Anzali in northern Iran, in a display of military cooperation between the Islamic Republic and Russia.

The destroyer, dubbed Makhachkala, dropped anchor at the Anzali port, home to the Iranian Navy’s Northern Fleet in the Caspian Sea, on Tuesday morning, IRNA reported.

The primary objective of the visit is to execute a joint commission on military cooperation between Iran and Russia, and promote “maritime diplomacy.”

Russian navy officers sailing on Makhachkala are scheduled to meet with the commander of the Northern Fleet, take part in a passing exercise (PASSEX), and conduct port visits during their stay.
