Tehran, IRNA - The Islamic Republic of Iran Customs Administration (IRICA) has announced that its narcotics seizures amounted to containing 5.337 metric tons (mt) in the past Iranian calendar year (ending March 20, 2023).

According to a Sunday report by the IRNA, the Iranian customs officers seized various illicit drugs worth over $165.5 million over the year to late March. 

IRICA officers carried out a series of complicated operations to discover narcotics from tankers and trucks, said the reporet, adding that officers had made some 101 arrests over drug trafficking over the past calendar year. 

The Iranian customs administration also launched a series of modern equipment in its border offices to facilitate checks and seizures related to narcotics shipments over the last calendar year, it added.
