Tehran, IRNA – Director General of International Affairs of the Vice Presidency for Women and Family Affairs, Khadijeh Karimi, has said that unilateral sanctions and coercive and illegal activities, hinder the growth and prosperity of women in various fields.

Karimi made the remarks at the Working group on discrimination against women and girls under the 53rd regular session of the Human Rights Council (19 June to 14 July 2023) in Geneva.

The Islamic Republic of Iran believes in the inherent dignity of women and articles of 20 and 21 of the Constitution of Iran emphasize the equality of all men and women, she added.

Karimi in her remarks called Iran's removal from UN Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW)  during the December 2022 meeting as an example of discrimination against women, especially Iranian women.

Director General of International Affairs of the Vice Presidency for Women and Family Affairs added that despite this obvious and illegal discrimination, the Islamic Republic of Iran has pursued the empowerment of women and girls with greater speed and seriousness.
